New Driveway Installation in Casper
A new asphalt driveway is the single most visible improvement you can make to a Casper property. We pour driveways for new construction, replacements of crumbling 1990s installs, and extensions onto existing concrete or gravel pads.
Our standard residential driveway specification is a 4-inch compacted base of 3/4-inch road base, followed by 3 inches of hot-mix asphalt rolled in two lifts. For driveways that see heavy trucks, RVs, or trailers, we go up to 4 inches of asphalt and 6 inches of base. Most homeowners don’t need that — but if your driveway holds your fifth-wheel year-round, it’s worth the extra hundred dollars.
Driveway Overlays vs. Replacement
If your existing driveway is structurally sound but the surface is cracked or faded, an overlay — pouring a fresh 1.5- to 2-inch layer over the existing surface — is roughly half the cost of full replacement and looks brand new.
If you’ve got alligator cracking, sunken sections, or the base is failing, an overlay won’t fix it. We’ll mill out the failed areas (or the whole drive) and rebuild from the base up. We’ll tell you straight which one your driveway needs — saving you thousands on a fix that won’t hold isn’t in our interest either.
Our Driveway Process, Step by Step
- Site walk and measure. We measure the driveway, look at drainage and slope, and identify any soft spots, drainage problems, or root intrusion that need to be fixed during prep.
- Written estimate. Itemized: tear-out, base, asphalt, edging, cleanup. No surprise charges on day-of.
- Excavation and grading. We strip vegetation and old surface, then grade the base for positive drainage away from your house and garage.
- Base course. 3/4-inch road base compacted in lifts with a vibratory roller. This is the step that determines how flat your driveway will be in 15 years.
- Asphalt placement. Hot-mix delivered from a Casper supplier, laid with a paver, and compacted to spec while still in temperature.
- Edge work and cleanup. Clean edges, hand-rolled transitions to garage and street, all equipment and waste hauled off the same day.
What an Asphalt Driveway Costs in Casper
For 2026, expect $5 to $12 per square foot for a standard residential driveway in Casper. Most jobs land in this range:
- Single-car driveway (~400 sq ft): $2,500 – $4,500
- Two-car driveway (~800 sq ft): $4,500 – $8,500
- Long rural driveway (~2,000 sq ft): $10,000 – $18,000
For a detailed breakdown of what drives those numbers up or down, see our Casper asphalt driveway cost guide.
Wyoming winter detail: we always slope new driveways at least 1.5% away from your house. A flat driveway in this climate ponds water, freezes, and lifts the asphalt within three winters. Slope is non-negotiable and it’s built into every estimate we write.
Choosing Between Asphalt and Concrete
Most Casper homeowners pick asphalt for cost — it’s roughly 30–40% cheaper than concrete — and for repair-ability: asphalt patches blend in, concrete patches always show. Concrete outlasts asphalt by 5–10 years if you’re willing to spend more up front. We do honest comparisons in our asphalt vs. concrete guide.
Frequently Asked
Common Questions
How long does it take to pave a driveway?
For a standard two-car residential driveway, the work takes one to two days — one day for excavation and base prep, one day for the pour. The driveway can be walked on within 24 hours and driven on after 72 hours.
How long until I can drive on a new asphalt driveway?
Foot traffic is fine after 24 hours. Light vehicles after 72 hours. Heavy trucks, RVs, or trailers should wait at least seven days for the surface to fully set up. Cooler weather extends these times.
Do I need to remove my old driveway?
Not necessarily. If the existing surface is structurally sound, an overlay works fine and saves money. If we see base failure, sunken sections, or extensive alligator cracking, we’ll recommend a tear-out. We tell you straight either way.
Can I pave in winter?
No. Asphalt needs at least 50°F surface temperature for proper compaction. The Casper paving season runs roughly mid-May through late September. We’ll get you on the spring calendar starting in March.
Do you do new construction driveways?
Yes. We coordinate with builders across Casper, Mills, and Bar Nunn. We can pour after concrete flatwork is set and the site is rough-graded.
